NIH has issued funding announcements and is hosting a virtual symposium platform to support Harnessing Data Science for Health Discovery and Innovation in Africa (DS-I Africa), a new $58 million program that will leverage data and technologies to develop solutions for the continent’s most pressing clinical and public health problems.

For the first time, the Fogarty Fellows and Scholars orientation program was held via teleconference. NIH Director Dr. Francis S. Collins made his annual appearance from his home office to offer advice and words of encouragement.
Essence establishes funding coordination mechanism
A framework for reviewing and coordinating capacity building in low- and middle-income countries has been established by the Essence on Health Research initiative, a collaboration of 40 funding agencies. Fogarty is an Essence partner.
