Epidemiology of Childhood Disease and DevelopmentThe Fogarty International Center (FIC) has conducted research in the rural village of Oshikhandass, in Northern Pakistan since 1989. A prospective cohort study from 1989-1996 investigated the burden of mortality, pneumonia and diarrhea, reviewing socioeconomic conditions, on the health of children under age 5. From 2011-2014, a follow up study was undertaken to investigate the health status of the adolescent and young adult members of the original cohort.
Capacity Building in Biorisk ManagementSince 2013 FIC has trained health professionals in biorisk management protocols and genomic surveillance, teaching over 1,0000 microbiologists and laboratory technologists, veterinarians and physicians from over 250 institutions.
