Project Description
Southeast Asia has over 600 million people, most of whom reside in low and middle-income countries that have a high burden of oral diseases which adversely impacts non-communicable diseases (e.g. diabetes and cardiovascular diseases), child development, and quality of life. There is a clear need for local research to identify risk factors and effective oral health management strategies in Southeast Asian countries, but the lack of personnel and access to training in research methods has been a major impediment to research in the region.
This project aims to build a sustainable, effective, and efficient clinical research methods training program by establishing a training hub in Thailand and by forming a regional network of oral health researchers who will conduct quality, locally-relevant research that will contribute to better management of this important public health problem for the benefits of the Southeast Asia.
