Project Description
School-age school children in sub-Saharan Africa are most commonly infected with malaria parasites among other age groups, but their infections are often undiagnosed because of a lack of malarial testing commodities. Because malaria screening among school-age children is important to reduce malaria transmission and to improve school performance, our research focuses on developing a mobile health (mHealth) technology to reliably identify school-age children who will need malaria tests and receive treatment.
The mHealth technology will support community health workers and local health facilities by maximizing the currently available resources for malaria diagnosis and management, while improving children’s health and public health response, in particular in the developing world and resource-limited settings.
