Program Overview

The Framework Programs for Global Health Signature Innovations Initiative provided short-term support to U.S. universities and their partners to create infrastructure, resources, and opportunities for training postdoctoral investigators to carry out innovative, multidisciplinary team research in global health. The initiative emphasized hands-on, problem solving and collaborative approaches, and may have required the development of new training models and new partnerships within and outside the university.

This opportunity was consistent with the goals of the Fogarty Strategic Plan to support and facilitate global health research in both communicable and noncommunicable diseases, build partnerships between health research institutions in the U.S. and abroad, and train the next generation of scientists to address global health needs. It also retained the signature features of Fogarty's Framework Programs for Global Health Program while addressing a gap in the scope of these projects.
