NIH Common Fund is Soliciting Ideas for NIH-wide Challenges and Opportunities
The Common Fund supports bold scientific programs that catalyze discovery across all biomedical and behavioral research. These programs bring together investigators and multiple NIH Institutes, Centers and Offices to collaborate on innovative research. Common Fund programs are expected to address high priority challenges for NIH as a whole and make a broader impact on the scientific community. Many Common Fund programs are designed to produce specific deliverables, such as broadly useful datasets, tools, technologies, research methods, or fundamental scientific paradigms. These deliverables are expected to have exceptional impact on the way science is conducted, our understanding of human physiology or disease, or our ability to support human health.

Non-NIH funding opportunities:
- The Curative Therapies Research provides funding for researchers worldwide to promote accelerated development of curative therapies for Fragile X, including – but not limited to – gene therapy, gene repair, gene reactivation, protein replacement, mRNA therapeutics and targeted ASO treatments. Open to applicants worldwide.
Application deadline: Applications accepted on a rolling basis. - The SRSF Mentored Collaboration Grant supports trainees who have limited sleep or circadian mentoring options in their chosen field of interest to mentors who can provide rich, face-to-face opportunities in state-of-the-art research techniques and methods. The mentor-mentee relationship is expected to extend beyond the face-to-face portion through ongoing phone or web-based meetings over the course of the funded year, with the goal of producing a research product such as an abstract for the SLEEP Meeting, a manuscript, and/or a grant proposal. The collaboration may take place in the United States or abroad, provided both participants remain active Sleep Research Society (SRS) Members. Open to applicants worldwide.

Vision Research Program - Translational Research Award supports translational research that moves promising discoveries into clinical applications that will advance the prevention, diagnosis, mitigation, and/or treatment of eye injury or visual dysfunction associated with military exposure. Open to applicants worldwide.
Pre-application deadline: July 28, 2026 - The
Macular Degeneration Research Grant provides funding for researchers worldwide with innovative research leading to greater understanding, prevention, and treatment of age-related macular degeneration. The Postdoctoral Fellowships from the Program are intended for researchers in the final stages of their mentored training and provide $100,000 (U.S.)/year for a period of 2 years. Open to applicants worldwide.
Letters of intent deadline: July 30, 2026 - The
Next Generation Research Grant in ASXL-Related Neurodevelopmental Disorders supports early career researchers in high-risk, high-reward translational research on the ASXL genes with strong potential for clinical impact. Applications may be submitted by basic, translational, or clinical investigators from USA and international public and private non-profit entities, including universities, colleges, hospitals, and laboratories, as well as biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or other for-profit companies.
Application deadline: July 30, 2026 - The
Global Health Technologies Coalition has launched a call for nominations for its 2026 Innovating for Impact Awards to recognize scientists and others who transform breakthrough research into lifesaving drugs, diagnostics, vaccines, and other tools for unmet global health challenges. The Partnership Award honors a research and development partnership, supported by the U.S. government, that brings together industry, government, nonprofits, academia, or other partners to advance a high-impact, game-changing global health technology.
Submission deadline: July 31, 2026 - The ISAC Young Investigator Travel Award is available to young investigators from ISAC Member Societies who submit an abstract for the 34th International Congress of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy in Manila, Philippines, from 7 - 9 December 2026. Eligible applicants must be under the age of 35 at the time of the congress and must be the presenting author (poster or oral presentation). Awardees will be selected based on the quality of the abstract.
Application deadline: July 31, 2026 - A call for applications for the National Academies Symposium - U.S.-Arab Frontiers symposium is now open. It will be held in partnership with Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences, and hosted in Kuwait City, Kuwait, February 1 - 3, 2027. The meeting will convene U.S. and Arab scientists, engineers, and medical professionals to discuss major scientific advances on a wide array of topics relevant to the Middle East and North Africa region and globally.

- The
American Orthopedics Society for Sports Medicine-JRF Ortho Allograft Grant supports basic science or clinical research project that advances insight into meniscal or osteochondral allografts. Open to applicants worldwide.

Peer Reviewed Medical Research Program - Lifestyle and Applied Health Research Award supports clinical research and/or clinical trials using a combination of scientific disciplines including occupational science, psychology, psychometrics, biostatistics and epidemiology, surveillance, implementation science, and population health. Open to applicants worldwide.
Application deadline: August 6, 2026 - The Peer Reviewed Medical Research Program - Impact Award supports applied research, defined as use-inspired and practice-oriented science that brings together outcomes from basic research, and insights from the real-world environment, to foster clinical applicability. The Impact Award intends to translate the fundamental understanding of underlying mechanisms toward solutions that have the potential for major near-term impact for patients. Open to applicants worldwide.
Application deadline: August 6, 2026 - The Tuberous Sclerosis Complex Research Program: Exploration-Hypothesis Development Award supports the initial exploration of innovative, high-risk, high-gain and potentially groundbreaking concepts in Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC) research field. Clinical trials are not allowed. The program is open to independent researchers and postdoctoral fellows (or equivalent) in the USA and worldwide.
Application deadline: August 6, 2026 - The
MQ Mental Health Research Schizophrenia Research Fellowship supports early career scientists from across the globe in research that improves understanding, prevention, diagnosis and/or treatment of schizophrenia. Applications are open to mental health researchers who have between 3 and 7 years of postdoctoral experience. Candidates must be based at a university, hospital, or other independent research organizations located anywhere in the world, except those based in countries currently under UK financial sanctions.
Expression of interest deadline: August 12, 2026 - The Multiple Sclerosis Research Program - Investigator-Initiated Research Award from the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP) supports highly rigorous, high-impact research with the potential to make an important contribution to multiple sclerosis research and/or patient care. Applications must include preliminary data. Open to applicants worldwide.
Application deadline: August 13, 2026 - The L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Caribbean program supports early career women researchers who are nationals of a country or territory in the Caribbean. Applicants must be PhD, postdoctoral or early-career researchers in life and environmental sciences, material sciences, mathematics, computer and information sciences, engineering sciences and technology.
Application deadline: August 14, 2026 - The Epilepsy Research Program -- Virtual Post-Traumatic Epilepsy Research Center – Leadership Award seeks a Director and Deputy Director to lead the Epilepsy Research Program (ERP) Virtual Post-Traumatic Epilepsy Research Center (P-TERC). The Virtual P-TERC is a multi-institutional career development and research training platform that consists of Faculty and their Career Guides (primary mentors) and is managed by a Director and Deputy Director. Open to applicants worldwide.
Application deadline: August 17, 2026 - The Established Investigator Academic-Industry Partnership (AIP) Award from the Melanoma Research Alliance (MRA) supports senior investigators working on melanoma research. Applicants must be past the first 5 years of their first faculty appointment at an academic, non-profit research institution in the USA or worldwide.

- The ARRS Resident/Fellow in Radiology Awards recognizes outstanding research conducted by residents and fellows in radiology and radiological science. Award-winning papers are required to be presented at the ARRS Annual Meeting. Open to applicants worldwide.
Application deadline: August 24, 2026 - The In-vitro models & assays to identify novel therapies for neuroinflammatory diseases provides a research grant to develop in-vitro models & assays to identify novel therapies for neuroinflammatory diseases. Open to applicants worldwide.
Application deadline: August 31, 2026 - The Rare-to-Common Neurodegeneration Impact Prize supports outstanding cooperative research projects at the interface between the rare childhood dementia CLN3 (Batten Disease) and more common neurodegenerative diseases (ND’s) such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson’s disease, as well as aging. The call is open to researchers based in German and international institutions.
Project outline deadline: August 31, 2026 - The William H. Harris, MD Award recognizes an individual based on the quality and scientific merit of a paper accepted for publication in the Journal of Orthopaedic Research®. The topic of the paper must be related to basic and/or clinical research involving the hip. All types of research related to hip reconstructive surgery (i.e. biological, mechanical, clinical, etc.) are appropriate topics for the paper. Open to applicants worldwide.
Project outline deadline: August 31, 2026 - The SRSF Small Research Grant supports the research of trainees and early career investigators who otherwise lack the institutional resources to support new studies or a sustained record of external funding. The program is intended to provide seed funding to support training and research, ultimately helping individuals successfully apply for or complete career development grants, such as K-awards. Funding for some grantees is provided in partnership with the American Academy of Sleep Medicine Foundation (AASMF). The grant is open to all levels of trainees (undergraduates, graduate students, postdocs) and early career investigators and requires institutional affiliation at the time of submission and throughout the grant period.

Cancer Prevention Fellowship Program
The NCI Cancer Prevention Fellowship Program (CPFP) supports postdoctoral fellows from diverse fields for up to four years of mentored research and career development. CPFP fellows build the foundation necessary for a successful transition to an academic, government, or industry position leading innovative cancer prevention programs. The program accepts U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and eligible international applicants from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
