NIH Operates Under a Continuing Resolution

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), including National Institutes of Health (NIH), operates under the Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, 2027 (Public Law 119-103) signed by President Trump on September 2, 2026. This Act (CR) continues government operations through December 11, 2026 at the Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 enacted level. The CR also prohibits NIH from implementing the revisions to the Uniform Administrative Requirements for Federal Awards (commonly known as the Uniform Guidance, e.g., 2 CFR Part 200), through December 11, 2026.

Non-NIH funding opportunities:

  • The Bone Marrow Failure Research Program: Resource Development Award strengthens research on bone marrow failure. Specifically, this funding supports the development of a multiomic atlas generated from well-annotated human bone marrow failure (BMF) samples, with omic data derived from marrow specimens. The resulting dataset should serve as an open-access, durable resource for the BMF research and clinical communities and is expected to facilitate key discoveries that advance the understanding of BMF diseases. Open to applicants worldwide.
    Pre-Application deadline: October 7, 2026
  • The Next Generation Research Grant in Peripheral Neuropathy funds early-career investigators conducting clinical or preclinical research into the mechanisms, diagnosis, or treatment of peripheral neuropathy. Applicants at accredited U.S. and international institutions are eligible, with no citizenship requirement, and must devote at least 50% of their time to protected research.

  • The Richard Olney Clinician Scientist Grant in ALS funds early-career researchers who are studying disease mechanisms, diagnosis, or treatment of ALS and whose research has potential relevance beyond ALS to other diseases. This award supports clinical or preclinical research in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Open to applicants worldwide.

  • The ARRS Distinguished Educator Award honors educators in the field of radiology with a track record of improving ARRS' educational program by creating and implementing new and innovative educational activities, or improving on current activities. This annual award is open to applicants worldwide.

  • The Next Generation Research Grant in ALS funds early-career researchers who are studying disease mechanisms, diagnosis, or treatment of ALS and whose research has potential relevance beyond ALS to other diseases.   • The PSC Support Seed Funding Awards upholds projects designed to generate pilot or proof-of-concept data that can lead to a competitive application to a large-scale funding body. Projects are expected to run for approximately 12 to 18 months. Open to applicants worldwide.

  • The New Investigator Award from CurePSP provides seed funding to early-career investigators who have innovative ideas that need proof of concept or pilot studies in order to qualify for larger funding sources. This grant program supports projects studying the fundamental neurobiology of PSP or CBD, and, translational projects focusing on new therapeutics and biomarkers for PSP and CBD. Open to applicants worldwide.

  • The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention opportunity, Strengthening Ghana Health Service Laboratory Services to Support the Response to HIV, Tuberculosis and Other Public Health Threats, provides funding for laboratory capacity and service delivery in Ghana.

  • The International Postdoctoral Fellowships in Immunology supports early and mid-career researchers with three year fellowships to pursue their own immunology-related projects at UTU or ÅAU. The program combines academic excellence with interdisciplinary and intersectoral training, mentoring, and career development. Fellows benefit from international mobility, industry collaboration, and tailored training in science, technology, entrepreneurship, and research beyond academia.

  • The Commonwealth PhD Scholarships contribute to the development needs of Commonwealth countries by supporting research that will have a developmental impact. Commonwealth PhD Scholarships are for applicants from the least-developed countries and vulnerable states.

CIFAR Global Scholars Program

CIFAR Global Scholars Program from the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR) supports early-career researchers developing and leading high-risk, high-reward interdisciplinary research, offering focused leadership training and expanded professional networks during their first years as independent principal investigators.
