Project Description

The influence of positive natural selection in shaping the genomes of southern African populations is largely unknown. Using the most appropriate and accurate statistical method, this study will scan large-scale whole genome sequencing datasets (over 1,000 individuals from approximately five populations) for signals of positive natural selection and characterize the functional importance of identified signals. Ultimately, this study will aim to detect novel positive selection signals that could have a potential impact on various human phenotypes in a largely understudied population.
