Project Description
In Botswana, many adolescents and young adults have received continuous antiretroviral therapy (ART) for nearly two decades and are ideal candidates for research into a functional HIV cure. This project will assess a cohort of early-treated adolescents by carrying out an in-depth characterization of their proviral reservoir and assessing mechanisms of possible viral control. The project will evaluate how the reservoir evolves in this cohort of adolescents while leveraging an existing analytic treatment interruption protocol (supported by NIAID grant U01AI179561) for selected participants (enrolling those with a blocked and locked reservoir profile). Finally this project aims to identify potential markers of functional cure.
