Project Description
The landmark Institute of Medicine report, “Emerging Infections: Microbial Threats to Health in the United States" highlighted the importance of zoonotic infectious diseases—60% of all human pathogens are directly transmitted from or emergent from animal reservoirs. Kenya, due the close interaction among humans, livestock, and wildlife, is a “hot spot” for emergence and suffers disproportionately from zoonotic disease burden. The goal of the Training Program is to strengthen capacity for surveillance, diagnosis, response, and prevention of emerging and endemic zoonotic pathogens.
