Project Description
Through well-established epidemiologic methods, this project will determine the prevalence and trajectory of metabolic syndrome among adults living with HIV in Colon city, Panama. Understanding the epidemiology of metabolic syndrome in this population is a necessary first step to inform the long-term goal to develop and implement evidence-informed interventions to prevent, screen, follow-up, and treat metabolic syndrome and its untoward health outcomes among adults living with HIV in Latin America. By understanding the local epidemiology, the factors that have an effect on metabolic syndrome, and generating local capacity through clinical guidelines, this project expects to advance the field of cardiometabolic health in adults living with HIV.
