Project Description
The growth of China's biomedical research capacity has outpaced the development of its ethical review and research integrity oversight infrastructure, and consequently increasing numbers of serious research misconduct and publication fraud cases have been discovered, which negatively impact Chinese scientists as well as their US collaborators. China must invest now in responsible conduct of research (RCR) training and compliance, and the National Center for AIDS/STD Control and Prevention (NCAIDS) at the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC), with its past, present, and future commitment to critical HIV research, must lead the way by serving as a good example and by actively reaching out to other domestic research organizations. Strengthening research integrity oversight of publications through publication ethics training, publication ethics case study, and internal pre-submission manuscript review, and strengthening ethical review of research proposals through institutional review board (IRB) apprenticeship and IRB mentorship.
