Project Description
This project aims to adapt and pilot a guided self-help stress management program from the World Health Organization and to incorporate peer cancer survivors in providing psychosocial support to breast cancer patients in Vietnam. We seek to demonstrate the feasibility of the culturally and contextually adapted intervention in reducing the psychological distress associated with cancer diagnosis and treatment, to ultimately improve cancer patients’ health outcomes. Successful completion of the project begins to fill the gaps in the lack of culturally appropriate evidence-based mental health interventions for cancer patients in many low- and middle-income countries, and in many racial/ethnic groups in the U.S.
